Philly Cheesesteak Meatloaf – Juicy beef, melty provolone, and sautéed veggies come together for a cozy, cheesy, and delicious comfort meal

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 tablespoon oil
  • 1 onion, diced
  • 1 green bell pepper, diced
  • 8 ounces mushrooms, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, chopped
  • 2 pounds ground beef
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • ½ cup Cheese Whiz (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 tablespoons ketchup
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 cup panko breadcrumbs (gluten-free if needed)
  • 4 ounces provolone cheese (for stuffing)
  • 8 slices provolone cheese (for topping)

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (180°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • Heat oil in a pan over medium heat. Sauté onion, bell pepper, and mushrooms until tender (7-10 minutes).
  • Add garlic and cook for another minute. Remove from heat and let cool.
  • In a large bowl, mix ground beef, salt, black pepper, Cheese Whiz (if using), Worcestershire sauce, ketchup, eggs, breadcrumbs, and sautéed vegetables.
  • Divide mixture in half. Shape the first half into a flat loaf on the prepared baking sheet.
  • Place provolone cheese in the center, then top with the remaining meat mixture. Seal the edges.
  • Bake for 50-60 minutes, until the internal temperature reaches 160°F (70°C).
  • Remove from the oven, top with provolone slices, and broil for 2-4 minutes until bubbly.
  • Let rest for 5-10 minutes before slicing. Serve warm.

Notes

  • Serve with mashed potatoes or roasted vegetables.
  • Swap ground beef for ground turkey for a lighter version.
  • Store leftovers in the fridge for up to 3 days; reheat in the oven.
